Participants will learn how to recognize signs of abuse, understand legal obligations, and follow proper procedures for reporting to the Statewide Central Register (SCR).

    What is a Mandated Reporter?

    A mandated reporter is a professional legally required to report suspected child abuse or maltreatment when they are acting in their professional role. This includes health care providers, teachers, social workers, child care staff, and more.

    Who needs to take this training at JEMCare?

    All direct care staff, including HCBS and CFTSS providers, are required by New York State law to complete Mandated Reporter training. This ensures staff understand their legal obligations when working with children and families.

    Why is this training important?

    The training helps you recognize signs of abuse or neglect and teaches you how to make a report properly. Your actions can protect a child from harm and ensure timely intervention.

    Is this training required every year?

    Yes. As of January 1, 2025, all direct care staff, including HCBS and CFTSS providers, must complete the Mandated Reporter Training annually in compliance with NYS Department of Health guidelines.

    What happens if my training expires?

    If your MRT expires, you will be locked out of Dragon and unable to clock in or out. You will also be ineligible to work or be paid for services rendered until the training is completed and documented.

    Will I be reminded before it expires?

    Yes. HR and Dragon will send expiration reminders beginning 60 days before your training expires. It is your responsibility to act before the expiration date.

    I have already taken the Mandated Reporter Training. Can I use that certificate?

    If you completed the training within the past 12 months through the official NYS OCFS Mandated Reporter Training site, you do not need to retake it. Please email your valid certificate of completion to hr@jemcare.org so it can be reviewed and recorded. Certificates from third-party sources or alternate platforms will not be accepted.
